The Department of Biotechnology at Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology welcomed its first doctoral scholars in 1993. Since then, the department has expanded its academic and research programmes to offer B.Tech., M.Sc., M.Tech., and Ph.D. degrees. The department emphasizes interdisciplinary learning through the integration of biology, engineering, and computational sciences. Laboratory training, research, and project-based learning are embedded throughout the curriculum, with students gaining experience in molecular biology, genetic engineering, bioinformatics, and bioprocess engineering. Modern research laboratories and industry engagement prepare graduates to address challenges in healthcare, agriculture, industrial biotechnology, and environmental sustainability.
