Student Projects

The Department of Biotechnology has long been defined by our close, caring, and collaborative community. Whether you graduated a few months or many years ago, we hope you’ll stay connected with faculty, current students, and your fellow alums.

The Capstone Project — Biology Meets Engineering

In the final year, student teams take a real biotechnological problem from concept to result. Under a faculty mentor, they review the literature, formulate a hypothesis, design and execute experiments — wet-lab, computational or both — analyse their data, and defend their findings through a written report and oral presentation.

Recent student projects include:

  • Non-invasive Glucometer
  • Studying the activity of PTCH1 genes in anti-cancer drugs
  • Rapid DIY turmeric adulteration detection kit
  • EEG signal recording & processing for engagement analysis
  • Making chocolates healthier through Spirulina infusion

INDUSTRY-IMMERSION SEMESTER

Every B.Tech. student spends a full semester at a host organisation — a pharmaceutical company, biotech firm, hospital R&D unit, CRO, CSIR/ICMR/DBT laboratory or partner university — contributing to live projects in molecular biology, bioprocess development, drug discovery, diagnostics, bioinformatics and clinical research.

Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology combines experience with new-age implementation.
